‘If we want children to flourish, to become truly empowered, then let us allow them to love the Earth before we ask them to save it.’

David Sobel, Beyond Ecophobia: Reclaiming the Heart in Nature Education (1999).

All education and care services are required under the National Quality Standards to educate and support children to embrace sustainable practises.  Quality Area 3 includes an element (3.2.3) to ensure services “care for the environment and support children to become environmentally responsible” (Guide to the National Quality Framework 2018).

At Balance Early Education we have taken this approach in both the design of our natural outdoor areas and the purchasing of our equipment.  Our furniture and timber features are made from long-lasting hardwood timbers including Victorian Ash, Merbau and Ironbark.  Each item has been chosen to stimulate children’s interests and connections with their environment and to allow them to explore the world around them.

Our outdoor environment includes natural logs to simulate fallen trees for climbing and lots of gardens for children to explore and be involved in the planting and cultivating of herbs and vegetables.

Our sustainability programs will encourage children to be mindful of waste and consider multiple uses for almost everything, even if it is just as compost!  We look forward to involving our families and the community in our quest to create a more sustainable future for all generations.
